Tokyo, September 22 — The Oversea Myanmar Professional and Entrepreneur Association (OMPEA), representing Myanmar professionals and entrepreneurs abroad, formally launched its activities with an inaugural ceremony held yesterday (September 21, 2025) at The KNOT TOKYO Shinjuku’s More Than Banquet event space in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo.
The newly established association aims to strengthen networks among Myanmar professionals, entrepreneurs, and students overseas; promote the exchange of knowledge, skills, and expertise; create opportunities for business collaboration; and contribute to Myanmar’s nation-building efforts by fostering intellectual support, technological transfer, and investment.
The launch ceremony was attended by Myanmar professionals, entrepreneurs, and students residing in Tokyo. In his opening remarks, OMPEA Chairman U Kyi Thu Shein emphasized that OMPEA would serve as a platform to consolidate the experiences, professional qualifications, and entrepreneurial capacities of Myanmar nationals abroad. He noted that the association intends to expand its reach beyond Japan to other countries, enabling the global community to recognize the talents and contributions of Myanmar citizens. His keynote address was delivered under the theme “Myanmar Nationals, a Strength to Rely On.”
The event also outlined OMPEA’s upcoming activities, including initiatives to foster collaboration, structured networking sessions, and future program planning. Participants engaged in introductions and exchanges aimed at building stronger professional and social networks.
Looking ahead, OMPEA announced plans to organize career networking programs, academic and health-related forums, professional knowledge-sharing seminars, and cultural showcases highlighting Myanmar traditions and cuisine throughout the year.
